After undergoing treatment for breast cancer myself in 2019 I went through the rehabilitation program with Cancer Care Centre in Amsterdam Oost.
Originally I was told that physical therapy would not be necessary following my treatment but it was not long before I realised that it was essential for my recovery.
After multiple complications I ended up working through the rehabilitation several times and realised that training was essential for my future quality of life. I felt that this wasn’t being made clear enough to patients like me so decided that I should use my experiences and try to share with others how beneficial training has been for me.
I decided to take a fitness trainer and a personal trainer course to learn how to do this. I spent my personal trainer internship with the Oncological Physiotherapist who treated me and eventually took over the Vitaal Verder class in Amsterdamse Bos.
Vitaal Verder- Amsterdamse Bos. Fridays 08:30-09:30
We train outside at the Bos Baan come rain or shine following a similar model to the physio trainings so it will be very familiar if you have already graduated.
We focus on circuits using body weight, bands or small weights incorporating lots of stability and compound exercises to make it as efficient as possible. Everyone is welcome, if you have specific needs due to treatment then we can discuss and tailor the exercises as necessary, everything is possible!
Everyone in our group has been through similar experiences so along with the fresh air and the nice views you can share your own experiences. learn and gain support from the others.
Training takes place in English but we have varying language levels and there will always be someone to support with translating as necessary.
